Contest Entry 20 - Tony Casillo

1889 International Typewriter

Introduced in 1889 by Lucien Crandall, the International was manufactured for a very brief period. It's unique feature is that one keylever controlled two typebars, so two typebars for each key on the keyboard. The intention was to eliminate shifting issues and make for a more perfect typing experience. It was a failure in the marketplace and few were manufactured. This is one of the very few known survivors.
